Orchid Bay consists of 114 acres on the Bay of Chetumal with 0.85 miles of oceanfront.
In May 2007, the Government of Belize inaugurated a ferry that reduced the drive time from Orchid Bay to Corozal Town from two hours to 25 minutes. Drive time to Chetumal Mexico was reduced from two and one-half hours to 55 minutes. Furthermore, the ferry now allows for a short 20-minute drive to Corozal airport, allowing Orchid Bay to be easily and inexpensively accessed from anywhere in the country.
The Chetumal bay is a harbor protected from the Caribbean Sea by the Yucatan Peninsula and is a breeding ground for several marine species, including tarpon, bonefish, and manatee. Orchid Bay has excellent access to Chetumal Mexico, the capital of Quintana Roo (Cancun’s province in Mexico). The greater Chetumal area is home to over 300,000 people and includes conveniences of a North American city, such as restaurants, shopping centers, and night clubs. Access to Chetumal has provided an attractive selling point: “Secluded, Not Isolated” is a motto the Company is using to effectively attract customers. As an example of Orchid Bay’s new-found accessibility, it’s now:
- 25 minute drive from Corozal Town
- 55 minute drive from Chetumal Mexico
- 25 minute boat ride from Chetumal Mexico
- One and one-half hour drive from Belize City
- Five hour drive from Cancun
- 20 minute commuter flight from Belize City & Ambergris, running hourly, seven days a week
Great Land Holdings intends to design Orchid Bay to have the comforts and conveniences of a town all within walking distance of your home. Therefore, the preliminary community plan includes residential lots, mixed-use lots (live/work units and condominiums/retail), commercial lots, and resort sites. The residential lots in Phase-I range in price from $39,000 to $149,000. These prices are expected to increase by 20% for Phase-II and another 20% for Phase-III. The Orchid Bay commercial and resort sites are for sale and the Company expects that they will be used for beach clubs, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. The largest structure planned for Orchid Bay is a three-story condominium modeled after The Circus in Bath, England. The development is planned to include 100 residential units and 25 commercial units.
Phase I has been opened for sale of home sites in Orchid Bay. Phase I includes 63 home sites on the eastern side of Orchid Bay. The Company has built some of the roads in Orchid Bay and some of the piping and conduits for water/electrical service are in place for Phase I.
